Civitas Resources, Inc., formerly known as Bonanza Creek Energy, Inc., is an American, carbon neutral oil and gas production company, based in Denver, Colorado. The company is engaged in the development and production of crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids in Colorado’s Denver-Julesburg Basin and is the state’s largest pure play oil and natural gas producer. The company was founded in its current form in 2021. The firm operates around 500,000 net acres, with development facilities located in counties across the Front Range of northern and central Colorado. The firm has a production base of approximately 160,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The firm has a stated commitment to sustainability and safety, with every new well developed by the company drilled horizontally, to increase the efficiency of operations while decreasing impact to the environment. The company includes other innovative practices where possible, including air-tight, closed-loop systems that capture 99.9% of emissions, tankless facilities that store no oil products on-site, the use of electric grid power on-site, which is quieter and eliminates source emissions, and the plugging and reclaiming of older wells to eliminate ongoing emissions.
