A multinational independent investment bank, Macquarie Group Ltd., acts as a holding company for subsidiaries engaged in banking and financial services, asset management and corporate asset finance. Based in Sydney, Australia, it specialises in infrastructure, technology, energy and commodities, with a focus on innovation. It was founded in 1969 and as of March 2022 it was operating across 33 markets and employing over 17,000 staff. Macquarie Group is divided into four operating sections — Macquarie Capital, Macquarie Asset Management (MAM), Banking and Financial Services (BFS) and Commodities and Global Markets (CMG). As well as this, the company also distributes and manages funds and wealth management products. The Macquarie Group logo is inspired by the ‘holey dollar’, Australia’s first official currency. After a currency shortage in 1813, Governor Lachlan Macquarie ordered a supply of Spanish dollars and punched holes through them to create two separate coins.
