SalMar ASA

SalMar was founded in February 1991 and is headquartered in Frøya in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway. It is one of the largest producers of farmed salmon. The company owns 100 licenses for marine production of Atlantic salmon in Norway; 68 in the company’s principal producing region in Central Norway and 32 licenses in Northern Norway. SalMar employs around 1,500 people. The company has developed into a vertically integrated aquaculture enterprise with production that covers the entire chain up to the sale of finished products. It has a fully integrated system for farming, processing, sales and distribution of farmed salmon. The salmon is sold both in-house and through business partners. SalMar also owns 59% of Iceland's largest salmon farmer, Arnarlax Ehf. and 50% of Norskott Havbruk AS, a company that owns 100% of Scottish Sea Farms Ltd., the second-largest salmon farmer in the UK, with production capacity in excess of 30,000 tonnes.
