Rosetta Stone Inc. is a language and education provider primarily known for its language learning software. In recent years, the company has expanded into other education products, such as brain-fitness. Rosetta Stone was founded in 1992 by Allen Stoltzfus and is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, together with several regional offices in the US, London and Seoul. Rosetta Stone, traded as RST on the New York Stock Exchange, went public in 2008, valued at $18 per share. The company was able to raise $112 million as a result. Initial excitement in RST was high, with the stock rising by 39% on the first day of trading. But a strong decline afterwards caused Rosetta Stone to cancel a second stock offering. Founder, Allen Stoltzfus, unknowingly began to create Rosetta Stone in the 1980’s. Stoltzfus was learning German while spending some time in Germany. He progressed quickly and found the language to be easy. However, when he later attempted to learn Russian in a classroom he found it a much more difficult ordeal.
