ASR Nederland NV (ASRNL.NV) is a major insurance group, based in the Dutch city of Utrecht. The company can trace its history back as far back as 1720, the founding date of the insurer Stad Rotterdam Verzekeringen, which merged with ETI Amersfoortse in 1997 to create ASR. ASR was spun out of the Dutch bank, Fortis in 2008 after it was acquired by the Dutch Government as a result of a necessary bail-out during the 2007-08 international financial crisis. ASR had been acquired earlier by Fortis in 2000 and subsumed into the bank before the brand was revived eight years later. De Amersfoortse, Ditzo, Europeesche Verzekeringen and Ardanta are all insurance brands under the ASR umbrella, offering products across non-life, life and income insurance, collective and individual pensions, health insurance, travel and leisure insurance and funeral insurance. The group also includes the ASR bank, which offers savings and investment products as well as being a consumer-facing residential mortgage lender. The bank also has an asset management division. In addition to its Utrecht headquarters, ASR Nederland also has offices in Amersfoort, Rotterdam, and Woudsend.
