The company dates its history back to 1889 when Joseph Polak & Leopold Schwarz formed the firm’s predecessor, Polak & Schwarz. The firm was founded in its current form in 1958 as a result of a merger between Polak & Schwarz and van Ameringen-Haebler. The company is headquartered in New York City and serves an international audience, with operations around the world. The firm primarily operates through two segments: Taste and Scent. The Taste segment focuses on products for the food and beverage industries for use in consumer products such as prepared foods, beverages, and sweet products. The Scent segment focuses on fragrance compounds, fragrance ingredients, and cosmetic active ingredients. The company has entered into several key partnerships, acquiring Aromor in 2014 and Ottens Flavors in 2015. In 2016, the company released its PuraVita brand, the first ever Cradle to Cradle certified fragrance.
