It was founded in 1871 as Citizens Savings Bank, established by its parent High Street Bank, which was first created in 1828. Its Consumer Banking segment provides a wide array of services, including lending, savings, and small business loans. This segment serves for-profit and not-for-profit sectors in various industries. Between 1988 and 2014, Citizens Financial Group made more than 25 strategic bank acquisitions and sold its underperforming branches in parts of New York, Indiana, and Chicago.
