Operating globally, Aptiv PLC is a technology company that produces automotive parts. It also develops and markets mobility-related technologies, including software capabilities, advanced computing platforms, and networking architecture. The company manufactures vehicle parts and provides electrical and electronic technology solutions for the commercial automation markets. Founded in 1994 as the Automotive Component Group, it later changed its name to Delphi Automotive PLC in 1995 and once again to Aptiv PLC in December 2017. The company employs around 150,000 people around the world and operates 14 technical centres, as well as manufacturing sites and customer support centres in 45 countries. Aptiv PLC’s operations are divided into two segments: Electrical/Electronic Architecture and Electronic & Safety. The design of the entire vehicle’s electrical architecture comes under the Electrical/Electronic Architecture segment. This includes the assembling of wiring, harnesses, electrical distribution systems, hybrid high voltage, and the electrical centres. The Electronic & Safety segment provides the software and programming solutions to the automation production process. It includes communications, security, and basic controls.
