SINO BIOPHARM (01177.HK) is a Chinese pharmaceuticals company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and headquartered in Shanghai. The group researches, develops and manufactures medical drugs and other healthcare products. Its distribution and marketing are also in-house. As well as conventional medicine, Sino Biopharm also manages traditional Chinese medicine plantations. Sino has one subsidiary, Sinopharm CNMC. In its present form, Sino Biopharm was established in 2003 when it listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Before that, predecessorSino Biopharmaceutical Limited was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s GEM sub-exchange for small- and mid-caps between 2000 and 2003. However, the company’s roots can be traced further back to 1998 when Sinopharm Industrial Investment was created as a joint venture between state-owned China National Pharmaceutical Group and the privately-owned Fosun Pharmaceutical. Sinopharm Industrial Investment still holds a majority ownership stake in the company.
