Toncoin is the native cryptocurrency of TON (The Open Network) blockchain, originally developed by the creators of Telegram, Pavel and Nikolai Durov. Launched in 2018, TON aimed to build a decentralised internet platform that is fast, secure, and scalable. One of TON’s key differentiators is its highly scalable sharding technology, allowing the blockchain to handle millions of transactions per second with low fees. TON has evolved since its initial creation, despite Telegram's withdrawal from the project in 2020. The TON community has continued its development, pushing forward innovations including decentralised storage and domain services.
