Sonic is a rebranded Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) layer-1 blockchain. It was previously known as Fantom, which was launched in 2018 as a platform for smart contracts and decentralised applications (dApps). Sonic boasts high transaction speeds, low fees, and enhanced scalability. Its innovative technology aims to provide a seamless user experience with fast finality and efficient storage capabilities. Fantom underwent a significant rebranding to Sonic in January 2025 with the support of Binance, aiming to revitalise the project and introduce new technological advancements. This rebrand included a token swap, where FTM tokens were replaced by S tokens at a 1:1 ratio. Sonic's underlying technology focuses on improving efficiency and scalability for dApps, with a capacity of processing 10,000 transactions per second.
