BYD ELECTRONIC (00285.HK) is a Shenzhen-based manufacturer of components for smartphones and also runs assembly line facilities for major mobile handset brands. BYD is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and was founded in 2007 after being spun out of BYD Co Ltd – it is also listed on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen stock exchanges. Before the spin-out, BYD Electronic had been a subsidiary of BYD Co. The company has three production bases in China as well as in Chennai, India, Hungary, and Romania. The company develops and manufactures new materials, molds, casings, ceramic elements and composite boards. It also engages in software and hardware design and the assembly and testing of electronic products. As well as its core business servicing major smartphone brands, BYD Electronic also has a division that focuses on ‘intelligent devices’, with the category including IoT devices, robotics and AI software development.
